About Betsy Hays

 

Betsy A. Hays, APRBetsy A. Hays, APR, is an accomplished speaker and facilitator who specializes in communication and public relations topics. She is also the lead Public Relations Professor for the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism at California State University, Fresno – a post she has held since 1999.

 

Betsy is an accredited public relations professional, having earned her “APR” designation from the Public Relations Society of America. With more than 18 years of public relations experience, she has been a strategic communication consultant for a number of nonprofit and private sector organizations. Betsy has also coordinated numerous successful special events.

 

She has served on the Board of Directors of the Central California Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America since 1998, and is currently serving as its President. Betsy was named PRSA’s Public Relations Professional of the Year in 2000. Betsy recently won the prestigious Provost's Award for Promising new tenure-track faculty, and she created the nation's first ever Public Relations Entrepreneurship course in 2007.

 

Prior to her service to Fresno State, Betsy worked for Deen & Black Public Relations (now Ogilvy Worldwide) and served as both media spokesperson and media trainer for clients throughout California and Arizona, mainly in the government sector. She has also coordinated a regional public education program with 62 cities in Central California, helping cities spread the word about the importance of solid waste management. In addition, Hays spent two years working in both internal and external public relations for Saint Agnes Medical Center.
